Laboratory doctors warn of staff shortages in medical labs – BDL proposes a roundtable.

The professional association of #labor doctors (#BDL) warns of growing #staff shortages in medical #labs, which threatens healthcare provision. A survey by the #HansBöcklerStiftung shows that lack of staff endangers local access to laboratory services. For example, a job posting for medical assistants receives on average only 1.6 applications.❗

This shortage of applicants is particularly noticeable in rural areas.
The number of applicants for medical assistants is low, and training numbers are declining due to closed #MTA schools. In some federal states, there is already a noticeable shortage of qualified personnel. Additionally, demographic change contributes to the problem. Part-time work worsens the situation, as many lab positions can no longer be filled.

Although a new #MTA law brings improvements, the implementation and funding provisions are insufficient. For example, many laboratories lack trainers to guide students in practice. Training schools are also located in hospitals, which leads to cost issues.
The BDL proposes a roundtable to address funding problems and adapt training conditions to practical needs. This is crucial, as #staff shortages could significantly impact #healthcare in Germany."

MyGermanWay supports laboratories against skilled worker shortages with Spanish MTAs (Medical Technical Assistants). They help MTAs with #language integration and #recognition of #qualifications.
